After Birth Eggs.

No, silly, not that afterbirth. I'm talking about the scrambled eggs we have after almost every birth I attend. We want our mama's to eat a good protein meal after she births her baby and eggs are easy and so good for you. It's my very favorite time of the birth. Mom is snuggled up nursing her little one with daddy feeding her eggs. The birth team is sitting close by doing our paperwork and noshing on eggs as well. So. Awesome. I am so incredibly blessed to be part of bringing new life into the world.

Have I mentioned how much I love my job, lately?

Dear 'ole mom

I was driving my mom to the airport on Tuesday and out of no where she says," Here's some words of advice for you while you're in your 40's, dear."

1)"Take your calcium with Vit D."

2)"Do your keigels....you don't want to be peein' yourself when your my age, dolly."

3) Something about flossing...which led to a long conversation about "...what kind of floss do you use?"

4) There was one more, but I can't remember what is was...maybe it was, "...eat flax.....but you have to store it in the fridge or it loses it super powers."....or something like that.

Why she waited until I was 3/4th thru my 40's to give me this invaluable advice, I'll never know. Thanks mom. Love you.

Wheaton Quilt show

I thought this quilt was cool....looked like stained glass....I think that was the idea. It looked kinda '70's to me and I liked that too as all things '70's seem to appeal to me these days.

LOVE LOVE the pebble quilting on this quilt.

Cute little piece of fiber art. Of course I like the buttons all around...I got a thing for buttons. I need to use them more often in my work...the only problem is that they have to be hand-sewn....and I'm lazy. Very.

....why is it called mono printing?

Def: Monoprinting is a form of printmaking that has images or lines that cannot exactly be reproduced. There are many techniques of monoprinting, including collage, hand-painted additions, and a form of tracing by which thick ink is laid down on a table, paper is placed on top and is then drawn on, transferring the ink onto the paper.

Mono....meaning one....means you only get one print that can't be reproduced exactly. Altho, after I print onto a piece of fabric, I'll get the paint wet again and print a similar piece. The printing looks different on different papers or fabrics. For example, I've printed on plain paper, card stock, magazine paper, and grocery paper bags. Each print looks different. I've also torn up an old cookbook and used those pages to print on too (see pic)...I think it looks cool. It's fun for collaging. Eventually I'll embellish the prints above...they aren't done yet...stay tuned. This is great project to do with kids. I'm planning on doing this with Amy's kids soon.

How to prepare yourself to sew.......from 1949.

"Prepare yourself mentally for sewing. Think about what you are going to
do...never approach sewing with a sigh or lackadaisically. Good results are
difficult when indifference predominates. Never try to sew with a sink full
of dishes or beds unmade. When there are urgent housekeeping chores, do
these first so your mind is free to enjoy your sewing.
"When you sew, make yourself as attractive as possible. Put on a clean
dress. Keep a little bag full of French chalk near your sewing machine to
dust your fingers at intervals. Have your hair in order, powder and
lipstick put on with care ... if you are constantly fearful that a visitor will drop
in or your husband will come home and you will not look neatly put
together, you will not enjoy your sewing as you should." 

Now excuse me while I put on a clean dress, do the dishes, make the beds and take care of my URGENT housekeeping chores :)

Try not to be too overwhelmed by how riveting my life is  ;) As you can see, the day was pretty much over by after lunch. 

I'll have to do a journal page on a day I go to a birth....now that world be riveting.

There once was a girl
golden hair , a bit of curl.
A smile so bright and sunny.
She finds lots of things funny.

An apple dress she dared to wear.
Now teasing unending she will bear.
She wore it to look her very best.
It made her stand out from all the rest.

She grew some more.
Different clothes she wore.
She had her own two boys,
and now they are too big for toys.

Her talents, they are so many.
She could make art from a penny.
From fabric and thread, art so fine
You'll be saying "I wish it were mine!"

But wait. There's more to tell you.
There's more she did and can do.

Long ago and so far away

"I have a new goal to achieve.

Became soldier lady for dear old Dad.
She studied hard & missed some naps.
All rewarded one day with gowns and caps.

And now she is blessed
with a job that's the best.

talking about a niece so dear.

She likes coffee and wine.
With hubby she likes to dine.
