More ATC's....miniture landscapes.

There's a big quilt show coming to Chicago in April. One of the booths will be hosting an ATC swap, so I wanted to get some cards ready for that event.

needle felting

I learned a new needle art this past weekend called needle felting. Needle Felting is a process using wool that has been washed and carded (so all the fibers are going the same direction) and using specially-designed needles with cut out barbs on the end. You poke the needles repeatedly into the wool (which can actually be quite therapeutic for getting out some bottled up aggressions ;)to bond the barbs in the wool together until they begin to form shapes. I made the Atc card above. Its a close-up shot. The size of the card is only 2.5 by 3.5 inches. I thought the bag was cute and something I could make....someday.....I haven't bought any supplies yet for this craft....I'm trying to hold myself back.

ATC live swap

I was able to get a few people together thru the Internet to start an ATC group. Here is the picture from our first live swap in Elgin on 7-9-08. It was really fun meeting people who craft as crazy as I do! From left to right: Nina -- Kimberly -- Nina's mom andme. Jo was taking the photo....she didn't want to be in it. Hopefully we'll have a few more folks next time....we're meeting again on Aug.9th.

A R T I S T T R A D I N G C A R D S ( A T C s ) :
A n I n tro d u c ti o n

A Swiss performing artist, M. Vänçi
Stirnemann, was admiring a collection
of hockey trading cards and was
inspired to develop the concept of “A
Collaborative Cultural Performance”
in 1996. He then created over 1000
Artist Trading Cards, displayed them
in his Zurich book store and on the
last day encouraged anyone who
wanted one to create their own ATCs
to trade. The criteria was that they
had to be 2.5 x 3.5 inches in size,
any medium, and were not to ever be
sold, just traded.
This new art form would have
remained a local attraction had it not

been for the Internet where word of them spread worldwide. These days
they are just a click away via your computer keyboard. Internet sites allow
individuals all over the world trade ATCs through the mail or organize live
trading events.
Today, Artist Trading Cards are created by aficionados worldwide. ATC
artists range from beginners to professional and work in every imaginable
media—acrylic, watercolor, oils, mixed media, collage, stamping/scrapping,
fabric, clay, and more! Once ATCs are created, they are traded in-person
or online either one-on-one or in swaps.

ATC

I started trading ATC's (artist trading cards) with some folks from this site ....ATC's for all. They measure only 2.5 by 3.5 inches. They're little pieces of art. Here is my first card that I will be sending to a woman in Canada. She in turn then sends me a card with the same theme. Fun.
