Another sneak peak of my latest project.

Does this look ok?

I want to make a small baby quilt using one big block (the added borders will make it bigger.) I think it looks okay, I'm just not sure....its for a baby boy....obviously.

WIP Quilt for Baby S

Step 1: Baby S's mom (aka Jennifer) says, "I want a baby quilt for my new baby and this is what I want it to look like."

Step 2: Agree to step one and make a plan.

Step 3: Pull fabrics from stash. Make sure Baby S's mom approves. She does.

Step 4: Cut fabric into 6 inch squares. Cut extra to make a donation quilt as well.



Step 5: Lay out squares in a pleasing manner and again make sure Baby S's mom approves. She does. (See comment.)

Scraps, 2009....WIP

Not a fan....

....of traditional Christmas colors (or Christmas for that matter...but thats another post for another day). So I was happy to find this wintery pack by My Mind's Eye. I added a few of my own fabrics and started on making some blocks. I'll most likely separate the blocks with sashing so it doesn't look like mish-mash.

Passion for Pinwheels

I decided I love pinwheels. Here's some pics of what I've been working on. I had planned on saving this project for South Haven when we go in June, but it just kept calling me. The flower fabric is a vintage bed sheet that I found in great condition ($2.50 from you know where...thrift store) and the blue fabric came from a bed skirt (1.25 also from you know where). The pink was from my favorite thrift store, Community Thrift, and there was about 2 yards for around 1.50. The pink fabric is a little on the cheap side but that's okay. The yellow and white came from the quilt store so that of course will bump up the cost of the whole quilt. All in all, only about $13.00 was spent to make this quilt top. Not bad! How's that for re-using and re-cycling? The 2nd pic is the first blocks I made, so my centers were a little off, but, the more I made, the more my centers came together. WooHoo! Oh, and btw, my pinwheels won't be all spinning in the same direction as you can see. I decided that would be okay.

Little peek.....

....of my latest Wip. I haven't started anything new in the last month. I'm continuing to work on projects I started months ago. I'm thinking I'll continue to work on Wips until I go to Michigan the first week in June. I have a few things picked out that I want to get started on while I'm there. I put aside the Florida quilt to work on this little project. I'm going to try and finish it today....maybe. As you can see from the above pic, I sewed the little mouse to close to the edge so I'll have to add on another border before I add the binding. I continue to think that I'm a master quilter (lol and rotfl) and don't need patterns.....hence I continue to make a lot of errors. Oh well, I'm learning as I go.

Last week I went to the Prarie Shop Quilts store in Batavia to join a few ladies who get together every Wednesday to quilt and fellowship. Oh boy, was I out of my league! These gals sure can quilt! Looking forward to joing them again this week.

When quilting goes bad......

Well I made a few rather large mistakes on the Florida quilt. 1) I cut the blue border too thin. This is what happens when one does not follow a pattern and one thinks she is so clever but really is a quilting newbie (not that there is anything wrong with that). The border for the inner part of the quilt should have been 3.5 inches wide but instead I cut it 3.0 inches wide.....duh. Then 2) I sewed it on and ironed the seams so very nicely. I then laid it out to admire my handy work and.................oh crap.

Week 3 WIPs

Well, since I decided to make the Florida quilt queen size instead of lap size, its going to take me a lot longer to finish. Aunt Kathleen had a great suggestion. Since I'm going to expand it by using only 4 patch blocks, she suggested to border the other blocks first before I started adding the new 4 patches....brilliant, auntie! Thanks for the idea!

This week's WIP/UFO

So this week I'm working on the Florida quilt. I've decided to make it big enough for our queen size bed. This will be the first bed quilt I make.....if it gets done. I started making more blocks yesterday. The blocks in the last photo are just a mish mash of scrap pieces sewn together. I'll use those scrappy blocks for a strip down the back like I did on the AB quilt.

Such a silly girl I was last Monday to think I could get 4 WIPS done in a week! I'm sure you all had a little giggle on my behalf. Good thing I changed the goal to one WIP a week. I finished the AB quilt just in the nick of time. I like it.

Now, on to the Florida quilt. But first I have to go check on 2 new mommies. Have a great day!

This week....

....is going to be all about WIPS and UFO's. I need to finish this, this, this, and this. In that order. Thats 4 projects in 7 days. Ready, Set, GO!!!!!!!

More fabric experimentation

BAD Bubba kitty!

This is why I try to keep the craft room door closed at night......I forgot to shut it last nite. Obviously there was some kind of kitty party going on in here while I was sleeping. No wonder Spooky had the lampshade on her head this morning.

Well, this quilt is coming along. I ran out of white for the sashing as you can see. I'll have to hit the fabric store tomorrow...oh darn it!...not the fabric store! They always take all my money.....Every time I lay a project out, Bubba thinks I made a special bed just for him.

The ink faded quite a bit with one wash. I'm going to try and heat set it next time before I wash the fabric. Also, I'll try some different fabric ink maybe. Anyway, I really like it.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Quite busy this Sunday morn.

Here are all the vacation blocks laid out. I'm going to put at least 3 inchs of white sashing in between the blocks so it will be a fairly large throw quilt. Some of the blocks are different from the original pattern due to mess ups. Also, I had to cut the blocks down from 8.5 to 7.5 inches due to, uh.......more mess ups.
