Garden Prayer Flags

I've wanted to make something similar to the Tibetan prayer flags for a long time. This past weekend I spent some time doing just that. I just think they are really pretty and fun and meaningful. The following is a short explanation of what the Tibetans believe about the flags.

File:Prayerflags.jpg

Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all.The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe as the images fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life's changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle.

For me, as I worked on my flags, I prayed and thought about all the blessings in my life. You can see on one of them there is the verse from John 15:1 which says," I am the true vine and my Father is the Gardener." My plan is to add more verses to the flag thruout the spring and summer.

One of my goals for this summer is to spend more time in our back yard tending the garden. I also want to get some chickens, so I'll need to tend them often as well. I thought if I spruced up the yard with some craftiness, it would encourage me to get my behind out there more this year:)

Square Foot Gardening

This could also be titled, "My Husband has lost his Freaking mind." He does not know how to do anything small. It's always GO BIG or do nothing at all. There are 6 beds measuring 4 feet by 5 feet plus a row of beds along the fence and in between each big bed. They are marked off into 1 foot squares. Each square can hold up to 6 plants depending on what it is.....allegedly. Tomatoes get their own squares, but spinach gets 9 plants for one square. 2 cukes gets 1 square...I don't know how that is possible....they spread all over the place. I really think its going to LOOK LIKE A FREAKING JUNGLE by August. Any way, Chuck swears he has it all under control. We shall see.

Chuck is pretty awesome, so it just may work ;)

The Square Foot Gardening Bible.

Chuck's been toting it everywhere with him. Mel Bartholomew is his new BFF. I wonder if Mel knows this.....

I'll keep you posted on the progress thruout the summer.

Grill Construction or My husband is a Rocket Scientist.

After he got it all put together, he said, "Hmmm...there seems to be a lot of leftover parts..." This cannot be good. On a more positive note, we grilled that same night and the burgers were yummy! I heart my Rocket Scientist.

The View......

.....from my studio window. I face this window when I'm on my computer. I love to see the sunrise over the houses and trees in the morning. I continue to be amazed by how blessed I am.

I am grateful .....for Impatiens from my sister.

Amy gave me these on Mothers day....they're beautiful. She kept asking me " how are the flowers?" I think she thought I let them croak! Nope...there they are....proudly displayed in the back yard. Thanks sis!
